Due to order sheets from Wenger, we all know that 65 confirmed examples of the ref. 2438/1 have been made. Fifty of those have been made in yellow gold, the remaining in pink, all with two-piece instances with screw backs made by Wenger. Nearly each instance has baton markers (second sequence, mark II dials), and whereas some have luminous palms, for probably the most half, they’re all much like the “third sequence” ref. 2497. They’re additionally mainly unimaginable to inform from the ref. 2497 till you flip it over and see the screw-down again. I’ve heard theories that instances have been ordered to make the reference after the slowdown in demand for the ref. 2497, and actions and later dials have been repurposed into this reference. The watches have been made in three batches of serial numbers, from 1954/1955 for the primary sequence and 1959 for the third. The primary batch appears to run serial XXX’099 to 110, the second from 135 to probably 150, and the third from that quantity to 177, although that also leaves some unknown gaps to finish the whole of 65.
